There's a version of me my coworkers remember - th There's a version of me my coworkers remember - the one before diagnosis, before treatment, before any of this cancer stuff. And I think some part of them (and honestly, some part of me) expects her to just... Show up again.

But I'm not her. I'm someone who's been through something, and I'm still figuring out what "keeping up" looks like now.

If you're navigating this too - the pressure to seem "back to normal" when you don't feel normal yet - I see you. โญ

I spill my own tea on my messy journey. Here's a c I spill my own tea on my messy journey. Here's a career journey "highlight reel" nobody shows you:

Loneliness in law school. Imposter syndrome. Getting rejected from internships I was sure I'd land. A concussion while studying for the Bar. Grieving my grandparents right as I started practicing. Losing my mom mid-career. A pivot that meant taking a non-law job before I found my way back to law. A breakup that made me lose myself. A cancer diagnosis โ€” while still showing up as a lawyer.

None of this made it into a LinkedIn post. All of it is on the blog.

This has been tough to reconcile with myself as a This has been tough to reconcile with myself as a survivor. Through treatment in a lot of the images in this captured, I tried so hard at times not sure why I couldn't push through even on what I thought were better days where I wasn't in pain but I just couldn't focus, I was fatigued, I had brain fog. I hated on myself for not being productive trying to work from home as a lawyer on many days in between chemo sessions.

Even after, I'm still having some of these fatigue days and I debate with myself whether to rest or continue to push. I'll feel good and want to push and then the next day or 2 I'll be feeling so tired that I don't know what to do with myself... And there are days where I feel like I'm punishing myself trying to push and get upset at myself for not being 100%.
I miss the old me when I had the energy and I believe I'm still capable so I get upset at myself but I've been told over and over by health care practitioners, hospital social workers and others to give myself grace... Recovery and survivorship is a journey itself...

I'm waiting... ๐Ÿ‘€ Not going to tell you to just "t I'm waiting... ๐Ÿ‘€
Not going to tell you to just "trust the process" or that "everything happens for a reason." I passed both Ontario Bar Exams on my first try, dealt with some NCAs as a Bond University ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ grad, and got dual-admitted in Ontario, Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ and Victoria, Australia ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ ๐Ÿฆ˜- it wasn't a tidy arc. There was a plan, some strategy, and then a lot of figuring out what actually mattered when nobody handed a syllabus for "how to become a lawyer when your path doesn't look like everyone else's".

If you're in the thick of it right now -studying, looking for post-grad internships, starting out in law, wondering if your international degree means anything starting from scratch - I've been there. No sugarcoat.

And if you've already had to rewrite โ€” no judgment And if you've already had to rewrite โ€” no judgment here, genuinely. The Ontario Bar Exams are no joke and the advice out there is all over the place.
Whether you're writing for the first time or coming back for another shot, the goal is the same: walk in with a strategy, know your resources, and give yourself the best possible chance at not having to do this again.

That's what the Study Guide is for. ๐Ÿ”— www.ginnylawblogs.thinkific.com ๐Ÿ”—Link in bio. My best tips, guidance and I'm always there for you ๐Ÿ™Œ

When I feel behind because I didn't go the 'tradit When I feel behind because I didn't go the 'traditional' route... but realize the traditional route wouldn't have taught me half of what I know." ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš–๏ธ

If you're an NCA candidate or foreign-trained lawyer, you know this feeling. Everyone around you seems to be on the "normal" timeline โ€” and you're still explaining what an NCA certificate of qualification even is.

Here's the truth: your path gave you things a straight line through law school never could. You've navigated two legal systems. You've learned to adapt, translate, and hold your ground in rooms that weren't built with you in mind. That's not "behind." That's range.

I didn't take the traditional route either. ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australian PLT, ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆNCA process, dual-jurisdiction admission in Ontario and Victoria๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ... ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บPLT clerkship with real estate, business and IP and solicitor general work, ๐Ÿ›ฌ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Ontario LPP & Criminal defence placement, then civil litigation, family law, wills & estates, employment lawyer to freelance to General in-house corporate counsel.

It felt messy in the moment. It reads as strength now.

Stop measuring your journey against someone else's map. ๐Ÿงญ

Because nobody talks about the version of a legal Because nobody talks about the version of a legal career that includes grief, health scares, unexpected pivots, and feeling like one needs to start over - more than once.

I've shown up to practice law through things that never made it onto my LinkedIn. And somewhere along the way, I started writing about it.

The Career Journey and Personal sections of Ginny Law Blogs - the Rocky road, the rebuilding, the resilience that nobody hands you a manual for.

If your path has looked nothing like the plan, you're not alone. And there's a whole corner of the Internet where we talk about it honestly.

I passed both Ontario Bar Exams on the first try โ€” I passed both Ontario Bar Exams on the first try โ€” from my experience, you don't need a tutor (but
they can be helpful for helping you understand the materials & keeping you on track or getting classes), you don't need to read the materials 3-5x cover to cover if you understand what you're reading the 1st time, and you don't have to spend months panicking.
I know which resources actually matter the most, and how to approach studying for the exams so you can move through the exams efficiently and accurately.
That's exactly what I put into the Study Guide โ€” so you can be prepared too.
