The legal profession attracts a lot of us: Crazy p The legal profession attracts a lot of us: Crazy perfectionists, hard working, people pleasing folks... So many of us are guilty of this. You tried hard in undergrad and thought if you just tried the same in law school you would get As and be at the top of your class but when you get your butt kicked in law classes, you wonder what happened and you just try harder thinking, if you just tried harder... But you pull so many all-nighters and you still don't get the results you want and you take it out on yourself... Then when you start working in the legal field you can't help but want to impress everyone and do all you can to make it work even if you feel like you're about to collapse... You undervalue yourself because you don't feel like you're enough yet you're trying to put your all in... Sound relatable?.. type A law student, legal professional, lawyer...
Been there, wish I could say I'm done with that but nah it doesn't leave you... But you're not alone, Typical type A law student personality.

Honouring our fallen heroes. Take a moment today t Honouring our fallen heroes. Take a moment today to reminisce how lucky we are for the brave soldiers and veterans that gave their lives in service so we may live ours. Normally a moment of silence is given at 11am but if you can't pull over immediately at 11, take some time just for those 2 mins in the day.

This was a tiring week๐Ÿ˜ช although it wasn't the wor This was a tiring week๐Ÿ˜ช although it wasn't the worst yet. Let's get real with hours for lawyers... Weeks will vary. Last Wednesday and Thursday I obviously worked really long hours but that's not the case every day or week, it depends on deadlines and situations.

I used to work long hours in a law firm and this year I made a change and decided to join a corporate office as the solo legal counsel. I know there are some who may be genuinely curious about how life compares. There's often a thought that there's more work-life balance or legal counsel work less hours but it turns out that's not always the case. It can vary, do in-house counsel involve themselves in litigation? Yes, some of us do. A lot of companies hire lawyers with litigation experience, especially insurance companies. Balance and work hours will differ in private law firms based on practice areas, how many clients 1 takes, billing style... Etc. And there are different factors for in-house legal counsel too such as industries, situations a company is in, willingness to hire external counsel, company structures, etc. I hope to write another career journey blog article soon on more about my career change and the differences.
