I know I’ve talked about how I had a concussion when I returned to Toronto from Melbourne and right before my bar exams, about constant limbo, tough job markets, and stressful demands in the legal profession but I stay positive and it helps my resilience by thinking about all I have to be grateful or thankful for. I am thankful for having the opportunity to have gone to law school abroad, I know that it is not something everyone is able to do.
I am thankful for all the friends I have in my life. I have best friends from 3rd grade, some friends from high school that I don’t always see but I still get together with every once in a while, friends I still visit from undergrad, and great friends I have met through other people that I may not talk to as much as my new friends I have met through them. I am also thankful for friends I have met in law school, as they are people who I can talk to who have been through this career journey with me and can understand some of the career struggles I am going through. I also want to thank the ones who have vouched for me in the past so I could get ahead. The same goes to friends I have met through the Ryerson Law Practice Program (LPP). I am constantly open to mentoring or giving tips out to others aspiring behind in my path, and I have told current LPP candidates over and over again that my biggest blessing during the program was having my three other LPP candidates I was grouped with in the LPP. I am thankful for having met my boyfriend in law school, who has continued to tell me how I’m going to be a great lawyer and reminds me that I am a hardworking, intelligent person, because we all need that kind of support and encouragement especially when we’re going through a tough career journey.
I am thankful for all the opportunities I have had to gain experience, learn, and network with others in the profession. I feel fortunate that I was able to work one summer with Nirmala Armstrong, a family lawyer in Markham before I finished my undergraduate degree who helped solidify my desire to apply for law school. I am thankful for having met everyone at Sanicki Lawyers, the firm I worked for in Melbourne. I just feel fortunate I was able to work with so many different people in my career path. I am thankful to the mentors and assessors I had in the LPP, and during my time as a student-at-law for Marco Sciarra and working in the GTA. I am thankful for everyone who has helped support me emotionally, vouched for me, and leant me an ear. I am so thankful that I am able to start a blog and have readers or people who are interested. I feel so blessed now especially after writing this.
I encourage everyone to think about what they have to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
